Melbourne Restaurants

1. Attica

74 Glen Eira Rd, Ripponlea VIC 3185

Eating at Attica is a commitment of time and money and they understand the kind of fine dining expectations that this time and money can bring. So let’s go full disclosure.

They love beautiful, rare and unique ingredients but for us that means bunya nuts, murnong or marron rather than foie gras, caviar or lobster. They’re fans of beautiful cutlery but also believe that some things taste better when eaten with your fingers. Our music taste is eclectic – you’ll hear that as you eat. They love looking after people but formal isn’t their style – we’re more into chatting than genuflecting. Attica serves a multi-course tasting menu at $320pp (payable upon booking) and beverages are charged on consumption.

2. Matilda

159 Domain Rd, South Yarra VIC 3141

Matilda is a visual and sensory journey, and a true labour of love for me – it’s named after my daughter, after all. The kitchen is fuelled by open fire and hot coals, delivering great food, strong design and a feeling of comfort and warmth.
The restaurant is a bit more relaxed than my usual style of cooking. It’s somewhere guests can visit often and be guaranteed a local piece of meat cooked exceptionally well over live flames and open grills and paired with seasonal produce. Being across the road from the Botanic Gardens, designers Projects of Imagination have brought the space to life by incorporating elements of earth, fire, nature and water into the interior of the space.

3. Cutler & Co

Behind a glass façade that has reflected the changes around it for over a decade, Cutler & Co. has had its own evolution. Their ethos – refined, simple, hospitable dining – has not changed in that time but their essence comes from that evolution, from reflecting and embracing neighbourhood and city and the changing nature of the way people like to eat. Twelve years on, we’re happy with the evolution, happier that we’re still here doing it and so grateful to everyone who has helped and supported them along the way.

Cutler & Co.’s Chef’s Selection Menu celebrates the season’s most exciting ingredients over five courses, priced at $150 per guest. On Saturday evenings, this menu is served exclusively throughout the dining room. Thursday, Friday & Sunday includes a two course $75, or three course $95 menu. All menus offered in the Cutler & Co. Dining Room may also be enjoyed in the Bar.
